Twitter for cash; Keeping those customers
So, you must know about Twitter, the latest booming social network phenomena. If you don’t I am presuming you are surfing the web, somehow, from the moon or under a rock. You might have created an account. Let’s say you have even picked up some followers and you finally have in your mind a message or a product you want to push.
The thing I like about Twitter as a marketing tool is that it forces you to be concise in your message by definition, remember you are working with just 140 characters to get your point across. Anyone who can waffle in that space just hasn’t thought through their key idea or vision!
That difficult bit is keeping people following, listening and interested in your messages – and I think there is a key to this.
Have you ever been to a football game and been in that terrible position of being next to the guy banging the drum? The pounding is relentless. It goes on and on and on.. Soon it is impossible to focus on what you are watching, or anything at all.
Now think about that in a marketing way. If all you do is bang a drum, loudly and without any subtlety, you just give people a headache and they might start to resent you.
I say “get to give”. If you have followers, give them more thn just your pitch. If something special has happened to you, something hilarious, or heart warming, I say let them know. Most people would rather deal with another person than an apparent machine.
The other aspect of “get to give” is looking at ways to reward your followers. Why not come up with a get together or maybe offer them a discount? The computer giants Dell cut prices for their Twitter community. The reward they got was a handsome $1mn in sales.
Remember that behind every PC is a person and your chances of making money will only increase.
